Painting Coasters For Mother's Day

Growing up my brothers and I always made our mom's mother's day gifts each year. We weren't allowed to buy her a present and she insisted we give her something special that we all made together. Well that family tradition stuck with me and now that I'm a mom of two little girls I want nothing more than painted hand prints, crayon drawings, and macaroni art! Here is something we came up with last week. This would be a perfect gift for mother's day : )

Painting Mother's Day Coasters

These coasters are actually 4" x 4" mini canvas panels. I bought them at Michaels and you can find them in the art & canvas aisle. They come 4 to a pack.

Line up the blank canvases and let your kids go to work. I cheated and used earth tones so they matched my house : ) I gave her paint brushes, sponges, and a black marker. You could also make little hand prints and foot prints!

She got a little carried away .......

But the end result was super cute. (Might want to stay clear of the brown - our greens and blues were all turning into mush!) Oh and remember to date the coasters!

Once the coasters are dry you need to apply a clear, water-proof garnish. I used "Americana Triple Thick Brilliant Brush-On Gloss Glaze".

Once the clear varnish is dry you can then hot glue your felt on. Use whatever colors you have. I just cut a square a little smaller than the 4"x4" canvas and hot glued it in the corners. This makes the back extra soft so it doesn't scratch your table.

The finished product. Happy Mother's Day! Xx

I think the whole idea of only making Mothers Day gifts is brilliant. That's what we do too. It's easy to buy something but from the heart and mind of your little ones is always the best and the most treasured. These coasters are something we would keep forever. Thank you! Great gift idea....again
