I feel like I haven't posted beauty tips in forrreeeever. Maybe it's because I have two kids and I rarely get the chance to beautify unless I'm filming for TV. Or maybe it's because my four year old started school so there is a plethora of boogers in our house. Or MAYBE it's because I only get 5-6 hours of sleep at night and I am too freaking exhausted to even change my American apparel sweatshirt. Well, whatever the case I look like a hot mess and I need to get back to BEAUTIFYING so let's all work together.
Here are my top 4 DIY Beauty Secrets ...
1. POTATO Eyes
Ok, so lately I have had super dark circles under my eyes. I don' get much sleep lately and I need a little pick me up once in a while. These are Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask Strips and they are awesome! I keep my pack in the fridge and in the morning when I need a little de-puff action I put these babies on for 30 minutes while I get ready. The box says leave on for 15 but I find they are still super damp and it hasn't totally absorbed into my skin so I leave them on for 30 minutes. Besides - I look totally hot while wearing them, right? This was from this morning sans makeup ... hence the black and white photo. Everyone looks better in black and white right?
Ok so for my DIY VERSION ~ Potatoes ...
Putting potatoes on your eyes is one of the best remedies to reduce dark circles under the eyes. I swear it works! Take a 1/2" slice of raw potato and apply to the eyelids for 15 minutes. Potatoes have a cooling effect and they will actually lighten your under-eye circles. The reason being, that potatoes have astringent properties that help reduce water retention around eyes.
2. LEMON JUICE FACE
I use Lemon juice to get a tight smooth look on my face. I know it sounds weird and you have to be careful with lemon juice, because it's super acidy and will sting if you pick your face at all, but I promise it does wonders. It not only lightens dark spots but it makes your skin really soft. With a fresh face I squeeze half a lemon very gently on the tips of my fingers and dab it on my forehead and cheeks. You can save your lemon halve on your counter and continue to use it all week long. Another tip is when you have all your makeup on, take a couple drops and dab them over the apples of your cheeks. It makes your face look fresh.
3. PUMPKIN MASK DETOX
I make my own pumpkin face masks all the time and I swear they do wonders. It leaves your face smooth and your skin bright.
If you want the expensive real deal you can buy the Epicurean Pumpkin Apple Spice Peel mask. This mask is A-freaking-mazing and it lasts forever because you only use a tiny bit each time, but with that being said, like most beauty products it's super duper expensive so I have my homemade cheat recipe below!
1/2 green apple
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon honey
1 1/2 tablespoons of whole milk
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1. Peel your apple and chop into smaller pieces. Throw in a food processor or blender. Add pumpkin, honey, milk, and cinnamon until you have a smooth mask. Apply a thin layer to your entire face and sit for 10 minutes then wash with warm water. Save the extra in the fridge!
4. CRACKY HEAL FIX
I don't know about the rest of you but I live in my flip flops .... which means my feet look nasty after a couple weeks. To get rid of those cracked heals I soak them in warm water with lemon juice and then I apply a super thick lotion all over my feet (like in globs so your feet are all white) and then I put socks over my feet and sleep in them.
What you need
A large bowl that you can fit your feet into
1/2 cup lemon Juice
1/2 cup of regular salt
Fill up your bowl with warm water so it covers your feet. Pour in the lemon juice and salt and let them soak for 30 minutes while you watch TV. Dry your feet and apply the thick lotion all over the bottoms of your feet. Cover with socks and go to bed! In the morning your feet will be soooooo soft.
